 Website launched for online registration of 17th   Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2023

The website for the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention was jointly launched on 13 October 2012 by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The launch of the PBD website (pbdindia.gov.in) marks the beginning of online registration to participate in the PBD Convention 2023.

Overseas refers to Indians who are working abroad (Non-Resident Indians) or persons of Indian origin who have taken citizenship of other countries.

17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention

• The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized in collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh from 08-10 January 2023 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The 17th PBD Convention will be held in physical format after a gap of four years. The last PBD conference in 2021 was held virtually during the COVID pandemic.

• The theme of the PBD Convention 2023 is "Diaspora: Reliable partners for India's progress in Amrit Kaal".

• The PBD Convention 2023 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 09 January 2023.

• Youth PBD in partnership with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will be organized on 08 January 2023.

• On 10 January 2023, President Draupadi Murmu will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the valedictory session.

Who organizes Pravasi Bhartiya Divas

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with a state government and an industry body, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) or the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It is usually held on 9th January.

On this day, in 1915 India's greatest expatriate, Mahatma Gandhi, returned to India from South Africa.

His ship, SS Arabia docked at Bombay (now Mumbai) on 9 January 1915. To honor and celebrate this occasion, the Government of India decided to start Pravasi Bharatiya Divas from 2003.
